Content Consideration
It is marvelous that the feeling of surprise and nurturing creativity influences each other.
First, let’s talk about creativity.
The basic elements in the creativity processes include human first, connectivity, communication, innovation, curiosity, and imagination.
It sounds abstract for children to comprehend what creativity is about. Here is a scenario:
Christmas Eve is coming. Each year, Zoe and Wing will invite Grandma, Grandpa, relatives, and kids’ friends to a Christmas party at home. This year, Zoe and Wing decide on their kids, Koyomi and Kazune, as a party organizer. Two rules kids re required to follow: They will not provide any comments for their kids and they do not need to consider the money expenditure.
To organize a Christmas party, Koyomi and Kazune need to learn the following:
Human first – Food preparation: Koyomi and Kazune are required to consider preparing foods that suit different eaters’ interests. They need to consider if there is someone who has special eating habits and requirements.
Connectivity – Organizing: Koyomi and Kazune need to prepare a guest and send an innovation. They can learn to design a different invitation card for individuals.
Communication – Cooperation: Koyomi and Kazune need to understand who is responsible to avoid duplication and extra work.
Innovation – Party activity: Events include decoration, games, and gift exchange. Koyomi and Kazune recalled the vague memory of last Christmas – games they played and gifts they exchanged to avoid playing the same game or buying the same gifts. They need to design an exciting game and prepare specific presents for everyone to have a happy and memorable experience
Imagination – Run down: Koyomi and Kazune learn to imbue the scenario of the Christmas party in mind, such as when the participants start eating, when the gaming section starts and ends, and when the gift exchanges start and end.
Curiosity – Asking questions: Mom and Pa do not give any comments or replies to questions. Koyomi and Kazune need to ask friends, Grandpa, or Grandma about things that they don’t know.
Takeaway:
Creativity is a sustainable work that has the following characteristics:
- Helping people to improve their lives and feeling better than before;
- Making life easier and happier;
- Causing you to feel surprised and have a memorable experience.

The same as the Poppy O’ Neill children’s social learning series, each book of Paula’s When I Am introduces a single behavior that guides parents and teens to have a basic understanding of what is important for them in their life development.
Paula’s When I Am series does not include any activities. Instead, by using simple language with lots of anime, the books are more appealing to teen’s interests and enable them to easily understand the meaning in different cognitive behaviors.
