In 2026, many scientists believe that El Niño may be the strongest in this century. Many countries reported that they experienced extreme weather conditions: extreme high and low temperature, super hurricanes and typhoons, drought, extreme rainstorms, causing life and property loss, hill fires, and poor harvests.
Over the past decades, people have been dedicating themselves to discovering ways to soothe the sequences caused by the extreme climate change that harms humans. Methods include reducing, recycling, and reusing materials: using renewable energy; reducing beef consumption; and planting trees. Unfortunately, the conditions are becoming more and more serious.
Your Planet Needs You inspires children that they could save the planet by establishing a long-term career plan related to the environmental industry. Here are some career recommendations from the book:
- Explore a new renewable energy source for consumption – Goals are to permanently abandon the use of fossil fuels as the main sources of energy consumption.
- An eco home designed to maximize the use of renewable energy – The use of solar panels, sustainable concrete, water recycling, the use of recycling building materials, and better design for natural lighting and ventilation
- Transportation energy consumption – Explore a new energy fuel consumed in the transportation industry, especially aviation. Planes consume a lot of fuels and release large amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The Your Planet Needs You suggested that children can invent an electric plane and abandon the use of traditional jet fuel engines.
- Moreover, the book also inspires children to discover ways to reduce energy consumption during train development.
As a part of the world, children can do very little about the issue. But they can also act now by establishing a positive mindset about environmental protection – effectively and economically using resources, such as reducing, reusing, and recycling. They can establish a positive mindset about environmental protection. The word “sustainable” is important for children to remember – it is not only about us or at current moment, but also for our generation to consume the same resources.
Children can think back what they do in their daily routine: they can use less water in daily washing up; not waste food in breakfast, lunch, or dinner; walk from home or school; reduce meat consumption; switch off appliances when they are not in use; or reduce paper consumption.
Children can also consider devoting themselves to environmental protection organizations. They usually have a clear mission and vision to develop a friendly, renewable, clear, and sustainable environment. Their goal is to hope that people can have a better living environment in the future, thinking not only about now but also for the sake of several generation ahead.
